Archetypal, 2001, 3.30 min, video

The video entitled “Archetypal” (2001) functions as a metaphor for the physical and psychological oppression that domesticity and its daily chores impose upon women. The woman portrayed in this video assumes almost demonic proportions in the face of disorder and chaos, which she manages to control through an intermittent struggle against the unclean and the evil. The rhythm in which the entire process develops is that of a prayer or an incantation, which manages to muster and channel the energy that goes into a tedious, mundane action deprived of all meaning into one of personal transcendence.
