Bureau,
2004, video, 3 min.
Bureau
is set in a typical attorney’s office, which is somewhat
old-fashioned in terms of interior design and aesthetics.
Action is minimal and centers on the owner’s relationship
with his private space.
The retired attorney to whom it belongs moves within this
space more out of habit than out of the necessity of work.
The office is a nucleus of absolute rationality and order
that exists within its own universe of time, indifferent to
contemporary developments.
It could also be seen as a living, fictional space that has
assumed power over its now weakened owner, holding him captive
in some sort of limbo between existence and non-existence.
This period of the office’s “autonomy” and
“paradoxical peak” seems to be its last flicker
before the owner’s complete retirement, upon which its
image will be definitively altered in time.
